DIRECTIONS FOR USAGE

Congratulations on your purchase of the SatCom PASSPort Mini-Plus -- winner of the International Consumer Electronics Show Innovations Award.

Please read through the entire manual before use and keep this document for future reference.

Precautions:

Recommendations: For permanent-mount and other applications, please refer to "PRODUCTS FOR OTHER APPLICATIONS" in the back page.

Aiming the Antenna:

  1. Mount the antenna on the portable mount or tripod mount. Make sure that the mount is level and steady.
  2. As shown in Figure 1, connect the provided 1 ft. cable from antenna output to one port of Digital Satellite Seeker. Connect the provided 30 ft. cable from the satellite receiver's (IRD's) "SATELLITE IN" jack to other port of Digital Satellite Seeker.
  3. Connect the receiver's SATELLITE OUT jack to the TV's UHF/VHF jack with the supplied 10-ft. cable.

    Alternative Connections: Connect receiver's A/V jacks to TV's A/V jacks. If your TV has S-VIDEO jack, use it to connect to the receiver's S-VIDEO jack.

  4. Aim antenna in approximate direction of satellite (facing south direction). Please refer to receiver's instruction manual for satellite location.
  5. Fine tune position of the antenna by maximizing signal strength shown on LCD display. Please refer to the notes listed in the opposite page if you have questions regarding the usage of the Digital Satellite Seeker.
  6. As shown in Figure 2, disconnect Digital Satellite Seeker and connect 30 ft. cable from IRD's "Satellite In" jack to antenna output. Note: A number of DBS satellites are in operation with similar frequencies and locations. It is possible that the antenna may be aimed at an adjacent satellite. If satellite program is not displayed on your TV, please verify satellite location and re-aim antenna.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    1. Why is the reading on the Digital Satellite Seeker not showing zero when my antenna is not pointing to the sky?
      ANS: Antenna is picking up noise from the LNB itself, ground and surrounding environment.
    2. Why is the signal level on the Digital Satellite Seeker's display different from the one from the receiver?
      ANS: The Digital Satellite Seeker utilizes relative power measurement technique to maximize the satellite signal level strength. Therefore, any arbitrary scale can be used.
    3. Can I leave the Digital Satellite Seeker connected after I set my antenna up or do I have to remove it?
      ANS: It is recommended that the Digital Satellite Seeker be removed from the system after the antenna is aligned.
    4. Does it matter which port on the Digital Satellite Seeker I plug into the antenna?
      ANS: No, it does not.
    5. What do I do when I only see " . . " shown in the LCD display of the Digital Satellite Seeker?
      ANS: It indicates that you may have too much power into the Seeker. Make sure the Digital Satellite Seeker is connected directly to the satellite antenna output.
    6. What does it mean when I see a dot (decimal point) in front of the number display in the Digital Satellite Seeker?
      ANS: It means that the reading is over 99. Note that the Digital Satellite Seeker is designed to go from 0 to 199 using only 2 LCD digits.

    PRODUCTS FOR OTHER APPLICATIONS

    1. HDBS model is a permanent version of the SatCom PASSPort flat DBS-TV antenna system that is designed for home and apartment users. Uniquely designed brackets for different mounting configurations are included with this model, including wall mount, rooftop mount and post mount.
    2. HDBS model have either automatic acquiring or automatic tracking capabilities that are designed exclusively for mobile users (RV's, boats). They are low profile flat DBS-TV antenna systems equipped with an automatic controller so that the antenna automatically aims to the satellite.

       LIMITED WARRANTY

      SatCom Electronics, Inc. ("SEI") warrants this Product under normal operation against defects in parts or workmanship for a period of 90 days for labor charges and for a one (1) -year period for parts from the date of purchase.

      I. DURING THE INITIAL 90 DAYS: SEI will replace your defective Product with a new unit at no charge.

      II. AFTER THE INITIAL 90 DAYS AND WITHIN ONE YEAR: SEI will either repair or replace your defective Product with a new or, at our option, a refurbished unit. We will bill you a flat fee to cover the repair or replacement cost.

      III. HOW TO OBTAIN WARRANTY SERVICES:

      Fax your dated bill of sale or receipt (must be readable through fax), model and serial number of your Product, brief description of your Product problems, and your name, address and phone number to 858-486-6699 or mail the above information to SatCom Electronics, Inc., 13400 Danielson St., Suite B, Poway, CA 92064, USA. Our representative will contact you and provide you a Return Authorization Number (RAN) if we determine it is a defective Product and is still within our warranty period. No returns will be accepted without a RAN.

      1. FROM OUR AUTHORIZED DEALERS: Take your unit along with the RAN and the original bill of sale or receipt to the nearest authorized dealer and you will be provided with a new unit.
      2. FROM OUR AUTHORIZED FACILITY: Upon receipt of a RAN, ship your defective Product, freight prepaid, to an SEI authorized facility. For shipping, use the original packaging or packaging that affords an equal degree of protection to the product. Enclose your original bill of sale or receipt inside package and write your RAN on outside of package. Upon receipt of your defective Product, SEI will ship to you a new unit, or at our option, a refurbished Product. If your defective Product falls within the 90-day to one-year time period, you must pre-pay the required cost as instructed when receiving your RAN.

        SEI assumes no responsibility of warranty shipments from the customer to our authorized facility if not shipped in the manner prescribed by SEI.

      IV. WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER:

      1. Any cost incurred for shipping, installation or re-installation of this Product.
      2. Modifications, repackaging, or integration of this Product with other unauthorized third-party products include mounting brackets and motion control equipment.
      3. Cosmetic damage or damage due to acts of God, accident, misuse, abuse, negligence or commercial use.
      4. Improper installation or connection to improper voltage supply.
      5. Attempted repair by anyone other than a facility authorized by SEI to service the Product.
      6. Products with factory-supplied serial number altered or removed.
      7. Products tampered with or used in a manner different from the recommended mode.

        THIS "LIMITED WARRANTY" PROVIDED ABOVE AND THE OBLIGATIONS AND LIABILITIES OF SEI UNDER SAID "LIMITED WARRANTY" ARE EXCLUSIVE AND ARE IN LIEU OF, AND BUYER WAIVES ALL OTHER REMEDIES, WARRANTIES, GUARANTEES OR LIABILITIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WITH RESPECT TO THE PRODUCT, ARISING BY LAW OR OTHERWISE INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY WARRANTY OBLIGATION OR LIABILITY OF SEI WITH RESPECT TO FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR USE, MERCHANTABILITY, LOSS OF REVENUE OR PROFIT, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGE. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHALL SEI's LIABILITY, IF ANY, EXCEED THE PURCHASE PRICE PAID FOR THE PRODUCT, EXCEPT TO THE EXTENT PROHIBITED BY APPLICABLE LAW.

        Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, or allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights which vary from state to state.
